Adding a blog post or news item

If your site has a blog or a news section, it's built as a collection, which means adding a post is a matter of filling in a form rather than building a page. Once it's published, the new post appears on your blog page and anywhere else the site shows recent news, all by itself.

Adding a post

1. Find your blog or news collection in the editing panel. It'll be named something like Blog, News or Articles.
2. Choose to add a new item.
3. Fill in the fields. Usually that's a title, a date, a main image and the post itself, though your site may have a few extras like a category or a short summary.
4. Save it, then publish when you're ready.

Writing a post that looks right

• Open an old post first. See how long it is, how the images sit and how the summary is written, and match that pattern. The page design was built around it.
• Give it a real title. "New stock arriving September" beats "Update". It reads better on the page and it's what shows up when people find the post through Google.
• Fill in every field you can. A missing image or summary can leave an odd gap wherever the post is shown.
• Size your images before you upload. Photos straight off a phone are far bigger than a web page needs. Getting images right before you upload explains what to aim for.

Editing or removing an old post

To fix something in a post that's already live, open it in the collection, make the change, save and publish.

Think twice before deleting a post that's been up a while. Its web address disappears with it, so anyone who linked to it, or finds it through Google, lands on a dead page. If a post needs to come down for good, email us and we'll remove it and put a redirect in place so nobody hits a dead end.
