Editing text and images on a page

Applies to: Webflow websites built by Rhythm Digital

Most of the changes clients make themselves are small ones: a price, a paragraph, a photo that's out of date. This guide covers both. You'll need to be logged in first, and How to get into your website to make changes covers that.

Editing text

1. Find the page you want to change and click straight into the text. Editable text highlights as you hover over it.
2. Type your change, the same as you would in a document. You can select text to make it bold or italic, or to add a link.
3. Your edit is saved as a draft. Nothing changes on the live site until you publish.

A couple of habits that keep pages looking sharp:

• Match what's already there. If the other headings on the page are short, keep yours short. The design was built around a certain shape of content.
• Avoid pasting straight from Word. Pasted text can carry invisible formatting with it. If you're copying from a document, paste it, then check it looks the same as the text around it.

Swapping an image

1. Click the image you want to replace.
2. Choose to replace it and upload your new image.
3. Check the page still looks right, then publish when you're ready.

The new image will be squeezed or stretched into the same spot as the old one, so it pays to start with an image of a similar shape. Getting images right before you upload covers sizes, shapes and file types in plain terms.

If you can't click on something

Not everything on a page is editable, and that's by design. If text or an image won't select, it's usually one of two things:

• It's part of a listing. Team members, projects, blog posts and similar content live in collections, and you edit them there rather than on the page. See Adding items to a collection, like team members or projects.
• It's part of the design. Buttons, menus and layout elements are locked so they can't be changed by accident. If one of those needs updating, that's a job for us. See What you can change yourself, and what to send us.
